Who We Are
The American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation amplifies the impacts that employees, agency owners, and policyholders have on their communities through co-creation of continuous engagements and trust-based investments. They build on American Family’s long-standing commitment and support of communities we serve by offering unrestricted, general operating grants to non-profit 501(c)(3) partners in addition to operating internal engagement efforts through matching gift and volunteer programming.
American Family Insurance partners with pro-golfer, Steve Stricker, to produce the AmFam Championship each year which raises millions of dollars for charity. They work to show young people that their dreams are not only attainable but worth the effort. The foundation supports charities, educational initiatives and organizations aimed at building strong families and healthy kids, empowering them to chase and achieve their dreams.
At the Institute, we invest in entrepreneurs who are tackling some of society’s greatest challenges and use world-class talent and resources to amplify our investments. We believe that our focus at the nexus of social impact and venture capital will allow us to make meaningful, lasting contributions to society.

Community Initiatives in Action
Dreamers in Action: DreamBank
At American Family, we believe communities are stronger and the future is brighter when people are actively pursuing their dreams. That’s the idea behind DreamBank — an inspirational community destination and digital experience, dedicated to giving people the resources and encouragement to pursue their dreams. In 2020, we expanded our programming to support community members’ dreams amidst the COVID-19 pandemic—offering immersive virtual experiences like Dream Summit, Dream Coaching and Dream Academy as well as Cultural Heritage Months & Moments events designed to help dreamers grow as more inclusive, equity-minded community members.
Additional Community Initiatives
From empowered employees to life-changing partnerships, American Family’s community initiatives worked to create stronger, healthier and more resilient communities in 2020.
A Wave of Volunteerism
The pandemic unveiled a few positives as well. We saw a significant increase in volunteer hours in 2020 with employees citing a strong desire to help their communities in a great time of need. In one example, employees spent more than 128 hours creating 4,000 food kits for distribution by United Way of Dane County in Madison, Wis.
Supporting the Next Generation
In 2020 American Family continued empowering the dreamers of tomorrow through programs like Adopt-a-School, an important connection between our community and its classrooms. We partnered with the Brewers Community Foundation on a $200,000 donation to support internet access and tech needs for thousands of students and families. And American Family employees teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters to streamline the match process for kids and mentors — reducing kids' wait time by 9 months and increasing matches by 44%.
Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation
Despite the cancellation of the American Family Insurance Championship in 2020, the charitable aspect of the event continued with $3M in donations to 154 local nonprofit organizations to address critical community needs.
